Hope for Harlem Outreach Sept. 12, 2020
On Saturday, September 12th, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Saint Saviour members volunteered at “Hope for Harlem,” a community event jointly organized by State Senator Brian Benjamin and First Corinthian Baptist Church. Held at Saint Nicholas Avenue between 118th and 119th streets, “Hope for Harlem” sought “to feed the mind, body, and soul of the Harlem community by providing groceries for families, care packages of essential items to children and adults, and lastly, hot packaged meals for families & individuals in need.”
The Congregation of Saint Saviour contributed $5,000 as well.
Shout-Out to all the volunteers from St. Saviour who participated in "Hope for Harlem." A whole city block was cordoned off! Folks received a fresh meal, pantry items, school supplies, toiletries, information about the census, voting, and heath care. It was a rousing success with nearly 9,000 people receiving help.
In addition, at day's end, when left with 900 frozen chickens, Neil and Winston ran back to the Cathedral to borrow the Dean's van so that those chickens wouldn't go to waste. As it turned out, more people showed up, and all the chickens were taken!!
