OPUS - “Older People Up to Something” is a group initially established for senior members of the Congregation of Saint Saviour in February, 2020. The leaders are Muriel Kneeshaw and Sonia Omulepu. The mission of OPUS is to bring older adults together to socialize, educate and encourage connections and engagement with fellow Episcopalians.

Since late March 2020, because of the restrictions imposed in response to the Pandemic, we have been unable to gather in person.

Nevertheless, we have tried to interact with each other both online and off, always adhering to recommended safety measures. Our OPUS group has provided topics and leaders for discussion in break-out groups during the Digital Congregation Coffee “Half-Hour” over the summer months. In addition, many of us have participated in other ways such as gardening, telephoning shut-in members, organizing take-out dinners in Riverside Park for people who live alone, working on promoting voting for the upcoming election, donating clothing to Cathedral Community Cares, and distributing information about food programs in the community surround the Cathedral. In the future, we are planning to have some speakers on various topics of interest.

Eventually, when we can gather in person, our hope is to have some interesting excursions. Of course, these will be well publicized so we can physically greet each other. In the meantime, stay well, stay safe and best wishes to each of you for God’s many blessings.
