Support for Cathedral Community Cares
This morning we heard from Thomas Perry, manager of the Cathedral Community Cares. He and his staff have been making kits from the soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes and body oils we have donated. We will continue to collect these items through Palm Sunday. Leave the donations at the welcome table next to the coffee set-up before or after Sunday services. On Easter there will be the opportunity to bring hams, turkeys, and desserts to augment the Easter dinner that CCC will serve. Watch this newsletter for information on how we will support CCC during the Easter season. Thank you for keeping in mind the people who are served by CCC. It also encourages those who work downstairs that we are thinking of them when we are worshipping God upstairs!
Saturday morning meditation continues at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Saviour
Do you sleep in Saturday mornings? Or is Saturday the day for chores and shopping? Before you go off to do your weekend errands consider coming to the Cathedral and sitting for an hour in silence with a few other members and friends. This is Unburdening—a series of meditations on Saturday mornings in Lent led by congregation member Mark Dilcom. Mark picks a theme for each Saturday morning and reads some poetry before we enter the silence. We leave relaxed and refreshed.
Astonished by Grace Sundays, 10:00 a.m. Cathedral Nave led by the Vicar
Come join Father Lee and about 30 other members for the last of the Vicar’s Lenten Bible study, Astonished by Grace. Steven promises that in the last session he will reveal the Good News (and I suspect doesn’t have anything to do with plucking out an offensive eye!)
Incarceration: From the inside looking out and from the outside looking in
How does it feel to be incarcerated in an American prison? How difficult is the transition into society? Tuesday night three former inmates spoke to a completely full Chapel of Saint James about their experiences in prison. All had been incarcerated for a good length of time. How did prison change their lives? They spoke movingly about how they used their time in prison to turn their lives around. This was the last Close Conversations of the program year. It started with a series of four talks put together by Fred Wherry. With the help and energy of Elizabeth Howard, Madeleine L’Engle fellow, each session attracted a larger audience. Financial support has been received from the Laymen’s Club and from the Flowers Foundation. Our warm thanks to Elizabeth, Fred and our benefactors in this endeavor.
Holy Week Ushers needed
Contact Head Usher and Warden Tim Dwyer (timothyddwyer9@yahoo.com if you can be available for ushering Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, and all the Holy Week services in between. This is a good opportunity to welcome thousands who will come to the Cathedral between Palm Sunday and Easter. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
Many blessings,
Tim and Marsha
