FIND YOUR SEAT AT THE CATHEDRAL
At every event and service, there is a seat for everyone at the Cathedral.
This spring, we will receive 2,000 new chairs that we will use when we gather.
We invite our community to name these chairs in honor of family members, friends, beloved church leaders, or even pets: For each gift of $250, we will engrave a plaque with your chosen name(s) that will be placed on the back of each chair beneath a beautiful etching of our historic rose window! The Cathedral is a treasured gathering place for the City, and these beautiful new chairs will be a gift to our vibrant community.

Life Together
Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Psalm 133:1
Our names are Grayson and Neil, and we are members of the Community at the Crossing. As Saint Savior congregants, we have a unique perspective of life in this fellowship of Christians. Unlike our siblings, who come to the Cathedral close from other churches and far-away corners of the country, the Cathedral is home to us. Like many of you, one of us was received as an Episcopalian here and the other baptized here. You are our family. And we are blessed to open this family and welcome our Christian neighbors through the bronze doors.
Grayson is a residential member of the Community. He lives on the close, eats his meals with the community, studies theology and the Bible, prays the Daily Office, and cares for hospice patients twice a week. For Grayson, community life has taught him new ways of relating to, and living alongside, others. He has an inspired hope for the future of our faith.
Neil is a local member. He goes to work throughout the week and lives in Inwood with his partner Taylor, but is with the community each Monday, many Saturdays, and for retreats throughout the year. For Neil, community life has reshaped his prayer life and made him more open to the movement of the Holy Spirit.
We participate in our community in distinct ways, but we both have committed to following the same Rule of Life. To dedicate ourselves to prayer, to study, to service and to the unity of Christians.
In the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, “Christianity means community through Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ... The Christian no longer lives of himself, by his own claims and his own justification, but by God’s claims and God’s justification.” Simply, it is in our intentions and actions toward our brothers and sisters that we love Jesus, and it is for his sake, and through his presence, that we come to love one another. In community, we try to live this out every day. Every morning and evening, we join our voices in praise and thanksgiving. After every meal, in tubs of hot soap and water, we join our hands in washing dishes. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we open our hearts to one another, sharing our hopes and learning to depend upon each other.
And though you do not join us for each meal, sing each Psalm with us, or pray each prayer, your Common Prayer each Sunday sets the foundation for all the work we do, and so you are always present to us. You are the stone foundation on which we hope, with God’s help, to build our house.
We invite you to join us on this walk with Jesus–either by attending one of our Wednesday prayer gatherings, coming to our upcoming Advent retreat morning, or joining us for morning prayer throughout the week. And if you are or know a young person who is moved by this year of divine interruption, prayerfully consider applying for the 2024-2025 cohort.
We hope you will join us soon, and come back frequently. We have learned that a relationship with Jesus is built on God’s time, and the Community at the Crossing provides a framework to discern that relationship.
Despite being members of the same tradition, we have come to faith in very different ways. Despite living community life along different patterns, we have the same Rule of Life. This is just one of the many ways that the Community at the Crossing has been a visible sign, to us, of the hope that “we all might be one.” We are so grateful to be living out this year in your midst and with your support.
