A Message From the Wardens of Saint Saviour

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  (Collect for the first Sunday in Advent)

Dear Members of the Congregation of Saint Saviour and friends,

As we enter this season of Advent we find ourselves going through a transition within a transition:  our interim vicar has left to pursue her academic career and we wish her the very best. We are in discussion with the Dean on how the pastoral needs of the congregation will be met until a new search can be undertaken.  Your wardens and vestry continue to manage congregation assets, to run educational programs and to work with you to build what we believe is a beloved community, diverse in every way and privileged to worship God together in this Cathedral. We are filled with hope and resolve.  God has truly blessed us.

There is much to look forward to this Advent:

Education: On Tuesday, December 5 and Tuesday December 12 at 7:00 p.m. Cathedral HouseProf. John Thatamanil will present a short series he is calling What's Love Got to Do with It? – Beauty and the Pursuit of Social Justice.  “A handful of modern and contemporary theologians have noted a curious omission in much recent theology: the forgetting of beauty. Whereas the ancient church routinely appealed to the true, the good, and the beautiful when speaking of God, much modern theology has forgotten the beautiful. Professor Thatamanil will speak about the dangers of this forgetting and his own recent turn to the beautiful in thinking about God, the life of faith, and the pursuit of social justice.” A light dinner will be served.

Toy Drive: December 10 Our toy drive in support of Cathedral Community Cares (CCC) started two Sundays ago.  It was fun to see the new dolls, teddy bears, toy cars and books that people have donated so far.   If you haven’t, please try to bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child ages birth to sixteen.

Christmas PartySunday December 10 at 12:30 p.m. in Cathedral House.  Join us for excellent food, drink, and fellowship.

Crafts Fair: After months of organizing and a tremendous effort in set-up, the Crafts Fair was officially opened, and our 25th Anniversary as a Congregation celebrated. Thanks to the 50 congregation members who worked to make this fair a success and to Susan Sobolewski, who provided such wonderful piano playing during the opening reception.

Vestry Elections: Our Congregation is strongest when a wide variety of views and voices are represented on our Vestry.  If you would like to be part of Congregation leadership, please reach out to the Wardens or any Vestry member before December 15 for information on how to run. We welcome your participation!

Faithfully yours,
Timothy Dwyer
