Sebastian Gamez, a Mexican artist who regularly worships with us, moved us last year during the season of All Saints/All Souls with the installation of two huge, beautiful remembrance altars or “ofrendas.” (An ofrenda [Spanish: "offering"] is the offering usually placed in a home altar during the annual and traditionally Mexican Día de Muertos celebration.

An ofrenda, which may be quite large and elaborate, is usually created by the family members of a person who has died and is intended to welcome the deceased to the altar setting.) Volunteers from the Congregation help create the flowers and chains that were part of these altars. All worshippers were then invited to leave objects and photographs in memory of their loved ones who have passed on.

Come join us for a simple lunch of pizza and a chance to make flowers and to socialize. Sebastian will provide the materials and instructions.
