#GivingTuesday - December 1, 2020

2020 has been a challenging year for all of us, but prayerfully reflecting on the beautiful Great Litany on Sunday, we are reminded that Advent is a time of new beginnings.

Today, Tuesday December 1 is Giving Tuesday - a global day of expressing gratitude through giving and unity. We believe that gratitude and generosity have the power to unite and heal communities in challenging times, as we look forward to a new year in solidarity and hope.

Because of your support this Thanksgiving, we raised funds and donated food for our Cathedral Community Cares (CCC) Thanksgiving meal, and our Congregation “Turkey Team” reached out into the community to bring supplies for the Thanksgiving meal for the RDJ Refugee Shelter at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on 126th Street. We also donated grocery store gift cards to needy residents of NYCHA’s Grant Houses on 125th Street.

This Advent season, in addition to our annual toy drive for CCC, Dec. 1-7, we will:

  • Send holiday cards to LGBTQ+ seniors in the Care Management program at SAGE USA, who may be experiencing isolation during the holidays.

  • Write holiday cards for homeless LGBTQ+ youth, who are spending the holidays in the shelters of the The Ali Forney Center, where they can escape the streets in a safe, warm and supportive environment.

Support the food distribution work of CCC, and reach out again to provide food assistance to the needy in the Harlem community.

We know these are uncertain times, but if you are able, one of the best ways to show your gratitude this Advent season and help continue our ministry is by giving to our Cathedral Congregation Mission and Outreach fund. We have set up a special link that will go directly towards Mission and Outreach during Advent and Christmas. If you would like to give, please click here.
